Fault & Non Fault Insurance Claims

There is a difference, but we can help and guide you through both types. Call our friendly team for more information and guidance through the minefield

  • What is a fault claim?

Quite simply this is a claim resulting in an accident occuring directly from your actions

  • What is a non fault claim?

A non fault claim results in you being the innocent party in an accident, and you have the details of the at fault party.

  • Is the claims process different?

If the accident is non fault, as long as the 3rd party are insured, you can claim from their policy. If they are not insured, then you would need to claim on your own policy.

If the incident is a fault, then you would claim on your own policy.

But in the event of a fault or no fault, call us and our claims team will liaise with the insurers on your behalf.

Car Insurance Facts

  • My insurer has told me that I have to use their approved repairer, is this right?

No, not at all. It is YOUR legal choice who repairs your vehicle, NOT your insurer. Insurance companies will also try to keep down their costs by using their preferred repairer. They might use a bodyshop who uses non original parts which could compromise the standard and quality of the work. This could even have an impact on the vehicles warranty.

  • I’ve been in an accident that was not my fault, do I need to claim on my insurance?

No, if you were not at fault, then you do not need to claim on your own policy. Cooper Barnes will repair your vehicle via the third parties insurance. In addition, the other parties insurance will cover you for any reasonable costs you have incurred.

Speak to us regarding our claims handling service.

  • My insurer has said I am not eligible to a courtesy vehicle or that my excess has increased, is this right?

They cannot increase your excess if you decide against their own bodyshop. Speak to us for assistance and guidance. With a courtesy vehicle, depending on your policy, this may well be correct, however Cooper Barnes will always endevour to keep you mobile with a loan vehicle. *subject to availability and conditions.

  • Why is a manufacturer approved bodyshop important?

Vehicle manufacturers regularly audit and monitor their approved bodyshops. Not only does this ensure the use of genuine manufacturer parts , accurate paint matching , maintaining your warranty but also manufacturer led best practice and regular manufacturer updates.

  • Can you repair / fix other areas of my vehicle whilst it is with you?

Yes we can, but your insurer will only cover for damage or issues that resulted from the accident. Any other works will need to be met at your own expense.

Vehicle Painting

  • What's the process?

Once the affected area has been repaired, we have to ensure that the surface is completly flat and dust free. It is then taken into our spray booth where the paint is applied. The booth then becomes an oven, and once the part is cooled, a lacquer is applied then "baked"again. De-nibbed (removing any imperfections) and then polished and refitted to the vehicle.

For a more detailed answer, please feel free to speak to one of our estimators or painters.

  • Can you do whole vehicle re-sprays and colour changes?

Yes we can, but it is very labour intensive and not inexpensive!

  • Can I watch my vehicle being sprayed?

All our painters wear full body protection, and enclosed air-fed masks, and the booth has a full built in extraction system due to the particles created when applying the paint.

Far better to see the shiny effect when we've finished.
